Arcimboldo (1527-1593)
Giuseppe Arcimboldo was a XVI Century Italian painter, involved in the Emperor’s court in Prague for many years, where he developed his typical, unusual, pre-surrealist style.
He is best known for creating imaginative portrait heads, made entirely of such objects as fruits, vegetables, flowers, and animals, metaphorically connected to the subject, painted with high care of details and great chromatic variety.
